David D. Levine ist ein amerikanischer Autor mit einem starken Fokus auf Science-Fiction und Fantasy. Er wurde in Minneapolis, Minnesota geboren und wuchs in Milwaukee auf, nachdem seine Familie nach Wisconsin gezogen war, als er sechs Jahre alt war. Levine studierte Architektur an der Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri und schloss sein Studium mit einem Bachelor ab. Sein Weg zum professionellen Schriftsteller war jedoch nicht geradlinig. Zunächst wurde er ein technischer Autor, dann arbeitete er bei Intel als Benutzeroberflächen-Designer und Software-Ingenieur für fast eineinhalb Jahrzehnte. Erst 2007 beschloss er, hauptberuflich zu schreiben.
Im Laufe seiner Karriere war Levine seit 1980 ein aktives Mitglied der Fanszene, an verschiedenen Konventionen und Ausschüssen teilnehmend. Er veröffentlichte seine erste Science-Fiction-Geschichte, "The Worldcon That Wasn't" 1996, die in der Again, Alternate Worldcons-Anthologie enthalten war. Seitdem hat er mehr als fünfzig Science-Fiction- und Fantasy-Geschichten geschrieben, mit seinen Arbeiten in zahlreichen Publikationen wie Asimov's, Analog, F&SF und verschiedenen Anthologien erschienen. Darüber hinaus hat Levine zum Wild Cards-Serie von George R.R. Martin beigetragen. Seine Geschichte "Tk'Tk'Tk" gewann den prestigeträchtigen Hugo Award und er wurde für mehrere andere Auszeichnungen nominiert, darunter den Hugo, Nebula, Campbell und Sturgeon.
Levine ist der Autor des Romans Arabella of Mars, veröffentlicht 2016, sowie seiner Fortsetzungen Arabella and the Battle of Venus (2017) und Arabella the Traitor of Mars (2018). Seine preisgekrönte Sammlung Space Magic wurde von Wheatland Press veröffentlicht. Er ist auch Mitglied des Verlags-Kooperativen Book View Cafe und der gemeinnützigen Organisation Oregon Science Fiction Conventions Inc. 2010 verbrachte Levine zwei Wochen in einer simulierten Marsbasis in der Wüste von Utah, eine Erfahrung, die sein Schreiben wahrscheinlich beeinflusst hat.
