Donald J. Sobol

Donald J. Sobol wurde als angesehener und einflussreicher Autor bekannt, insbesondere durch seine „Encyclopedia Brown“-Reihe von Kinderbüchern. Sobol wurde in New York City geboren und besuchte die NYC Ethical Culture Fieldston School, die er 1942 abschloss. Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs diente er im Pazifik-Theater in den Army Corps of Engineers.

Nach dem Krieg setzte Sobol sein Studium am Oberlin College fort und erwarb einen Bachelor-Abschluss. Anschließend begann er seine journalistische Laufbahn als Copy Boy und arbeitete sich zum Reporter beim New York Sun hoch. 1949 wurde Sobol eine Stelle beim New York Daily News angeboten, eine Position, die er zwei Jahre lang innehatte, bevor er zum Einkäufer im New Yorker Büro von Macy's wurde. Doch seine wahre Leidenschaft lag anderswo, und er zog schließlich nach Florida, um Vollzeitautor zu werden.

Sobols Schriftstellerkarriere begann mit der „Two Minute“-Reihe, einer erfolgreichen syndizierten Serie, die über ein Jahrzehnt lang lief. 1963 schrieb er den ersten Roman der beliebten „Encyclopedia Brown“-Reihe, „Encyclopedia Brown, Boy Detective“. Die Reihe wird seither jährlich veröffentlicht und wurde in mehr als ein Dutzend Sprachen übersetzt, wodurch Sobol zu einem preisgekrönten und weltweit anerkannten Kinderbuchautor wurde. Leider verstarb Donald J. Sobol im Juli 2012.
