Gary A. Braunbeck ist ein hoch angesehener amerikanischer Autor, der vor allem für seine Arbeit in den Genres Horror, Science-Fiction, Fantasy und Krimi bekannt ist. Er ist der Autor der Cedar Hill-Reihe, die auf seiner Heimatstadt Newark, Ohio, basiert. Braunbecks Werk wurde mit zahlreichen Auszeichnungen geehrt, darunter der Bram Stoker Award für hervorragende Leistungen in der Kurzgeschichte, den er zweimal gewonnen hat. Seine Sammlung "Destinations Unknown" gewann 2006 ebenfalls den Bram Stoker Award. Neben seiner Tätigkeit als Autor ist Braunbeck auch adjungierter Professor an der Seton Hill University in Pennsylvania, wo er im innovativen Masterstudiengang Writing Popular Fiction unterrichtet.
Braunbeck ist ein produktiver Schriftsteller mit insgesamt 19 Büchern, die allesamt Fiktion enthalten. Seine Werke wurden in mehrere Fremdsprachen übersetzt, darunter Russisch, Japanisch, Italienisch, Deutsch und Französisch. Neben seinen Romanen hat Braunbeck auch über 200 Kurzgeschichten verfasst, von denen viele in verschiedenen Publikationen im ganzen Land erschienen sind. Einige seiner bekanntesten Geschichten sind Kriminalgeschichten, die in der Anthologiereihe Cat Crimes erscheinen. Braunbecks Fiktion wurde von Kritikern gelobt und hat ihm mehrere prestigeträchtige Auszeichnungen eingebracht, darunter den Stoker Award 2006 und einen Bram Stoker Award 2005 für seinen Roman "Duty". Seine Novelle "Kiss of the Mudman" gewann 2005 den International Horror Guild Award in der Kategorie Langfiktion.
Braunbeck ist auch ein erfahrener Herausgeber und hat kürzlich die Bearbeitung der neuesten Ausgabe der Anthologiereihe Masques abgeschlossen, die von Jerry Williamson erschaffen wurde. Er war zeitweise Präsident der Horror Writers Association. Braunbeck ist mit der Science-Fiction/Fantasy-Autorin Lucy Snyder verheiratet und sie wohnen together in Columbus, Ohio.
