Mark Robert Bowden ist ein renommierter US-amerikanischer Schriftsteller, bekannt für sein Buch "Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War". Geboren am 17. Juli 1951 in St. Louis, Missouri, entdeckte Bowden bereits während seiner Zeit am Loyola College in Maryland seine Leidenschaft für den Journalismus durch das Lesen von Tom Wolfe's Buch "The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test".
Nach seinem Abschluss im Jahr 1973 verfolgte Bowden eine Karriere im Journalismus und arbeitete von 1979 bis 2003 als Redakteur für The Philadelphia Inquirer. Während seiner Zeit bei The Philadelphia Inquirer erlangte Bowden internationales Ansehen für seine Arbeit und gewann zahlreiche Auszeichnungen. Er hat auch für verschiedene Publikationen wie Men's Journal, The Atlantic Monthly, Sports Illustrated und Rolling Stone beigetragen.
