Martin Edwards ist ein renommierter britischer Autor, der für seine Kriminalromane und seine kritischen Beiträge zum Genre bekannt ist. Geboren in Knutsford, besuchte Edwards eine örtliche Grammar School in Cheshire und studierte später am Balliol College der Oxford University, wo er 1977 mit einem ersten Klasse Honors-Abschluss abschloss. Nachdem er 1980 als Rechtsanwalt zugelassen wurde, zog er nach Liverpool und etablierte eine erfolgreiche Karriere im Rechtsbereich.
Neben seiner Arbeit im Recht hat Edwards mehrere rechtliche Artikel und Bücher verfasst, sowie mehrere Fiktionsserien. Seine Harry Devlin-Serie und Lake District Mysteries-Serie haben große Popularität erlangt. Edwards ist auch ein Gründungsmitglied der Nordkapitel der Crime Writers' Association und der Murder Squad, was sein Engagement für die Krimi-Fiktion-Community zeigt.
Martin Edwards hat zahlreiche Auszeichnungen für seine Arbeit erhalten, darunter den CWA Diamond Dagger, die höchste Auszeichnung im britischen Krimischreiben. Seine jüngsten Romane, wie "Mortmain Hall" und "Gallows Court", wurden gut aufgenommen, wobei letzterer für zwei Auszeichnungen nominiert wurde. 2018 erkannten britische Bibliothekare sein Gesamtwerk mit dem CWA Dagger in the Library an. Edwards hat auch mehr als 40 Anthologien herausgegeben und verschiedene Sachbücher veröffentlicht, was sein Fachwissen im Bereich der Kriminalgeschichte unter Beweis stellt. Er ist der Archivar sowohl der Crime Writers' Association als auch der Detection Club und wurde 2015 zu ihrem achten Präsidenten gewählt.
