Martyn Waites ist ein renommierter britischer Autor und Schauspieler, der für seine Beiträge zu den Genres Krimi, Thriller und Spannung bekannt ist. Geboren in Newcastle upon Tyne im Jahr 1963, verbrachte Waites seine Kindheit und Jugend in seiner Heimatstadt und hatte nach dem Universitätsabschluss verschiedene Jobs, wie zum Beispiel den Verkauf von Lederjacken, Stand-up-Comedy und das Servieren in Pubs. Seine Leidenschaft für die Darstellende Kunst führte ihn an eine Schauspielschule und schließlich auf Theaterbühnen in ganz England.
Waites' Karriere als Schriftsteller begann in den 1990er Jahren, als er mit der Arbeit an seinem ersten Roman begann, einem noir Mystery-Roman, der in seiner Geburtsstadt spielt. Sein Debütroman "Mary's Prayer" wurde 1997 veröffentlicht, und es folgten drei weitere Romane mit derselben Figur, einem investigativen Journalisten namens Stephen Larkin. Seitdem teilt Waites seine Zeit zwischen Schauspiel und Schreiben und schuf eine weitere Journalistin, den belasteten Reporter Joe Donovan, der erstmals in "The Mercy Seat" (2006) auftrat. Waites' neuestes Werk ist "Speak No Evil" (2009).
Die Arbeiten von Waites sind hoch angesehen, und er hat mehrere beliebte Buchserien verfasst, darunter die Stephen Larkin-Serie, die Tom Killgannon-Serie und die Joe Donovan-Serie. Neben seinen Romanen hat Waites auch mit anderen Autoren zusammengearbeitet, um ein Sachbuch mit dem Titel "Great Lost Albums" zu produzieren.
