Melinda Metz ist eine erfolgreiche US-amerikanische Autorin, die vor allem durch ihre Buchreihe "Roswell High" bekannt ist, die in die populäre Fernsehserie "Roswell" adaptiert wurde. Metz wurde in San Jose, Kalifornien, geboren. Ihre Mutter versuchte, sie in der Kindergartenzeit das Lesen beizubringen, was jedoch wenig Interesse bei Metz weckte. Später beherrschte sie jedoch das Lesen und Schreiben und studierte Englisch an der San Jose State University.
Nach dem College zog Metz nach Manhattan, um ihr Glück zu suchen. Sie hatte verschiedene Jobs, wie beispielsweise in einem Supermarkt zu arbeiten, 2,73 Dollar als Aushilfe backstage für ein off-off Broadway-Stück zu verdienen und Bücher zu editieren. Während ihrer Zeit als Editorin lernte sie Laura J. Burns kennen, mit der sie später an mehreren Projekten zusammenarbeitete. Das Duo wurde zu unoffiziellen Schreibpartnern, entwickelte Story-Ideen und arbeitete schließlich gemeinsam an der "Roswell High"-Buchreihe. Burns entwickelte und editierte die Reihe, während Metz die Bücher schrieb.
Der Erfolg von "Roswell High" führte dazu, dass Metz und Burns zwei TV-Pilotfolgen schrieben, am "Roswell"-TV-Show arbeiteten und für kurze Zeit in Toronto lebten, während sie für das Schreibteam von "1-800-Missing" tätig waren. Das Duo setzt seine Zusammenarbeit bei Büchern fort und schreibt sowohl gemeinsam als auch einzeln. Sie haben ein neues Jugendthriller-Projekt in Arbeit, und Metz' erstes Erwachsenenbuch, "Talk to the Paw", wurde im Februar 2018 veröffentlicht. Metz hat außerdem eine sechsbändige Reihe für junge Leser, "S.M.A.R.T.S.", die sich mit Kindern in einem Makerspace-Club befasst und viele Wissenschaftsfakten enthält. Metz lebt derzeit in Concord, North Carolina, mit ihrem Hund, Scully.
