Richie Tankersley Cusick ist eine bekannte Autorin von Fantasy-Jugendromanen. Sie erlangte in den späten 1980er und frühen 1990er Jahren Bekanntheit, als das Horror- und Jugendgenre einen bedeutenden Aufschwung erlebten. Die Popularität von Cusick wuchs neben Autoren wie R.L. Stine und Christopher Pike, wobei mehrere ihrer Bücher auf Bestseller-Taschenbuchlisten erschienen.
Cusick wurde 1952 in New Orleans, Louisiana, geboren und verbrachte ihre Kindheit in einem kleinen Sumpfstädtchen namens Barataria. Die unheimliche Sumpflandschaft ihrer Heimat inspirierte sie dazu, bereits in jungen Jahren zu schreiben. Nach dem College arbeitete sie bei Hallmark und zog in ein gespenstisches Haus in Kansas City. Während ihrer Zeit in diesem Spukhaus begann sie, ihr erstes Buch, Evil on the Bayou, zu schreiben, was ein Erfolg wurde und ihr ermöglichte, Vollzeit zu schreiben.
Mit über zwei Dutzend Romanen zu ihrem Namen ist Cusick seit drei Jahrzehnten eine führende Figur im Horror für junge Erwachsene. Zu ihren beliebtesten Werken gehören Trick or Treat, Lifeguard, Teacher's Pet, Vampire und Someone at the Door sowie zwei erwachsene Horrortitel, Scarecrow und Blood Roots. Derzeit wohnt Cusick in North Carolina mit ihrem Hund, wo sie von einem antiken Schreibtisch aus schreibt, der einst einem Bestattungsunternehmer gehörte.
